I am an experienced psychotherapist and CBT therapist in private practice based in Stockport, Burnley and Blackpool, and have a vast experience of providing therapy in the NHS and the charitable sectors. I work with all issues related for the need of 1-1 therapy, including bereavement, trauma/abuse/relationship issues and specialise in the treatment of addiction which I have written and developed successful treatment programmes over the past 18 years.
I am a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy and qualified supervisor and senior lecturer in counselling. My two main approaches to therapy are Psychodynamic and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT):
Psychodynamic psychotherapy seeks to understand how deep-rooted aspects of the past can have an impact on present day-to-day life and lead to recurring problems that cause suffering and distress. The process is a collaborative one in which the relationship between the client and the therapist is of great importance in order for the client to gain a deeper understanding of themselves, their relationships with others, and in this way develop a greater self-awareness and insight so that change can be achieved.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) focuses on how your thoughts, beliefs and attitudes that affect your feelings and behaviour. People can get caught up in a pattern of negative thinking that can have a devastating impact on mental wellbeing. This form of therapy is widely used within the NHS and helps the individual challenge and change self defeating thoughts and behaviours, thus improving the mental wellbeing/quality of life.
