Two former clients from ACORN Recovery Projects, one of the UK’s largest rehabilitation establishments, have had their journey of learning and development recognised at the Further Education Awards Ceremony, at the Middleton Arena.
Darrell Hughes-Jones, from Chester, and Darryl Griffin, from Tameside, both successfully completed twenty weeks of treatment, including primary treatments and the secondary STAR programme at ACORN Recovery Projects.
Whilst undertaking their journey of recovery, they enrolled with Hopwood Hall College, and completed the CLEAR programme.
The CLEAR programme was designed by ACORN Recovery Projects, in partnership with Hopwood Hall College, specifically to help those in recovery to overcome the practical and psychological barriers of gaining employment or progressing into further education.
Darrell was presented with the Community Learning Best Progress Award, recognising his journey from addiction to completing CLEAR, and is now volunteering four days a week in the Think Café, preparing and serving meals to hundreds of students and staff.
Darryl Griffin was presented with the Community Learning Best Achievement Award.
Darryl successfully completed both the STAR and CLEAR programmes, and enjoyed this so much that he now volunteers with Emma Whittle, the course facilitator, once a week, assisting current STAR clients who are now enrolled on the CLEAR programme.
Nicola Crompton-Hill, Head of Rehabilitation and Housing at ACORN Recovery Projects said:
“Attending the awards ceremony and seeing the progression of both individuals was a credit to both ACORN and to the pure determination and commitment of both Darryl and Darrell.
“Hopwood Hall College and ACORN work together in partnership to ensure that people have the chance to progress and develop, and the achievement of both individuals demonstrates the value from this fantastic partnership. Well done to both – a fabulous achievement!”
