Throughout Recovery Month, we will be sharing positive stories, helpful advice and insight from our work in addiction recovery.
Phil, one of our volunteers has shared a little of his own recovery journey in the hopes that it can inspire someone to make the first steps towards positive change.
My name is Phil and for recovery month, I thought I would share a bit of my story.
I was in addiction from the age of 13. I am now 40. I have done a lot of prison time because of my addiction.
So, during my most recent sentence, I decided I wanted a better life. So, I started working with Acorn in prison. I did various courses and on release, I went into one of Acorn’s Recovery houses and have been clean since.
I have my family back in my life and I also do volunteering, helping vulnerable people and giving a bit back to the community I took so much from. Today, I want to live and enjoy my life. I will be forever grateful to Acorn for showing me a new way to live.
We hope you found Phil’s story interesting. If you’re struggling with addiction, there is effective help available and real change is possible. For more information on Acorn’s services, get in touch today.
